1.마이즈루 마루
E.H. Hunter set up Osaka Iron Works, on game 토토사이트 predecessor of Hitachi Zosen, on on game 토토사이트 Ajigawa River in Osaka in 1881. Had Hunter not decided to make ships, Hitachi Zosen would not exist today, and wh cups of sake. Hunter's motivation for shipbuilding, according to on game 토토사이트Seventy-Five Year History, came from his experience with마이즈루 마루*1 at E.C. Kirby & Co.(1)

[He] established Onohama Shipyards . , on game 토토사이트 we except that Kirby had already accepted an order from Lord Hosokawa of on game 토토사이트 Higo [Kumamoto] Domain for on game 토토사이트 wooden steamship마이즈루 마루. . . Kirby resolved to complete on game 토토사이트 construction of마이즈루 마루, and he thought of Hunter for on game 토토사이트 project. An October 1874 survey by on game 토토사이트 Meiji government(4)says that마이즈루 마루was a steamship under on game 토토사이트 control of Shirakawa Prefecture (currently Kumamoto Prefecture), and it was manufactured in "Kobe, Japan" in "Meiji 4 [1871]" measuring "16.5ken*2[30.0 m] in total length" and "2.5 ken [4.5 m] in deck width." on game 토토사이트New History of Kumamoto City(5)lists under Western ships owned by on game 토토사이트 Higo (Kumamoto) Domain, "마이즈루 마루: 40 horsepower, 171.5 tons, cargo capacity 160 koku*3[24 tons], crew size 13 persons," suggesting it was a small transport ship.
At on game 토토사이트 onset of on game 토토사이트 Saga Rebellion in February 1874,마이즈루 마루carried Kumamoto soldiers from Hyakkanseki Port in Higo to Hayatsue at on game 토토사이트 mouth of on game 토토사이트 Chikugo River.(6)"Arriving at Hayatsue at 8 p.m. . . . it put on game 토토사이트 soldiers ashore, and was prevented by on game 토토사이트 low tide from departing, when it was seized by Saga rebels."(7)on game 토토사이트 ship was recaptured in March by Meiji government troops.(8)Meanwhile, on game 토토사이트 Shizoku (former samurai) uprisings went on and escalated into on game 토토사이트 Shimpuren Rebellion of 1876 in Kumamoto and into on game 토토사이트 Seinan War (aka on game 토토사이트 Satsuma Rebellion) of 1877 in Kumamoto. on game 토토사이트Hundred Year Historynotes, "Many wealthy merchants made a colossal fortune from this [Seinan] war. Hunter's eldest son, Ryutaro, spent his post-retirement years, from on game 토토사이트 Taisho (1912–26) to Showa (1926–89) periods, touring on game 토토사이트 Seto Inland Sea and on game 토토사이트 Kyushu coastal region in his yach마이즈루 마루.(10)He must have heard stories of on game 토토사이트 hardships his father endured in youth.
